With MoreClips you can use more than one clipboard. Simply choose the clipboard you want to copy to or paste from and copy and paste as usual. MoreClips is a fat application - not a system extension -, so you can quit it when you want to save memory.
Because MoreClips does not patch or modify any system software routines, it runs quite stable.
When you quit MoreClips, the contents of the selected clipboard get into the "normal" clipboard.
Be careful! The content of all the other clipboards will be lost!
To choose a clipboard, you can select it from the "File"-menu, type command-"1" to command-"5" or click on it in the floating window. The active clipboard is grayed in the floating window.
Tip:
You may want to put MoreClips or an alias into your "StartUp Items" folder in the System Folder (only System 7 and higher).
Rotate Window
To rotate the window, choose "Rotate window" from the "Special"-menu or type command-"R".
Switch/AutoSwitch
To switch back to the program you were in, choose "Switch to..." from the "Special"-menu or type Command-B. If "Auto-Switch" is selected, MoreClips switches back automatically when you select another clipboard. The "Auto-Switch"-setting is saved in the MoreClips Preferences file.
Show/Hide Clipboard
Use "Show Clipboard" from the "Edit"-menu to show a clipboard window that displays the content of the current clipboard. It can display text and pictures. Stylized text is drawn without styles, but the styles are nevertheless in the clipboard - they are just not viewed.
Shortcut:
Click on the grayed icon of the active clipboard in the floating window to show the clipboard window.
Use MoreClips FKEY to change clipboards from other programs without switching to MoreClips. You can even change clipboards within a dialog-box without leaving it. To use the MoreClips FKEY, MoreClips has to be launched. MoreClips FKEY is only a "remote control" for MoreClips.
When you choose "MoreClips FKEY..." from the Special menu, a dialog-box appears which shows seven "slots" in which you can install the MoreClips FKEY. To install MoreClips FKEY into your System file, choose a "slot" (it must be empty) in which you want to install it and click on "Install". To remove a FKEY (you can remove any FKEY, not only MoreClips FKEY), select its slot and click remove.
To invoke the FKEY, type "Command + Shift + the number of the slot you chose" in the dialog-box. The cursor changes to a small clipboard with a question mark in it. Now type the number of the clipboard you want to change to - it must be from 1 to 5.
If there is an error, the MoreClips FKEY beeps. If it beeps
• once you typed not a number from 1 to 5
• twice MoreClips is not launched or the connection to MoreClips is invalid
• three times there was a Toolbox error. Probably there is not enough memory
to switch clipboards or a resource is missing
• four times you've launched MoreClips FKEY while MoreClips was the front application.
MoreClips FKEY works only when MoreClips is in the background (it's a "remote control")
• five times there was an error while communicating with MoreClips - perhaps
the version of MoreClips does not match the version of the FKEY (should never occur)
Applications with a private clipboard
Some applications have their own, private clipboard. They write their own clipboard to the "public" clipboard (which MoreClips accesses) only when they are switched to the background and they read the public clipboard to their private clipboard only when they are switched to the front. Probably you will have problems using MoreClips FKEY (not MoreClips) with these applications - when you change clipboards with MoreClips FKEY, it reads from/writes to the public keyboard only, the private clipboard of the front application is not updated/remains unchanged. With these applications, you have to switch clipboards using MoreClips (if you change clipboards with MoreClips, the application is switched to the background and back to the front, so they do their clipboard conversion).
Please report any bugs or problems you have with MoreClips - I will try to fix them in the next release. Suggestions are very welcome. If you have problems with MoreClips, first try to trash its preferences file.
If you use MoreClips for more than two weeks and you decided to keep it, please send $10 shareware fee to me. If this is to much for you, send less. Students only have to send $5.
You can send me the shareware fee directly - in this case, send cash only, please - or pay to Kagi Shareware using the "Register" program.
